A dear friend recently bought a wine refrigerator. At first, I thought: insane, extravagant, over-the-top. But then, in hindsight (which never does tend to have a future), I do recall having a modest wine rack myself, though not temperature controlled. Personally it’s quite pleasing to know that a bottle or two waits for me at home for the evening when I’m feeling a glass of red. You might concur. But when guests start arriving, you might need more than the half bottle left from the previous evening to come off as “the perfect host.” And for that, a modest collection is necessary with the panache to allow the guests to choose (though you might want to hide that 2005 Gaja Barbaresco) You don’t need an elaborate contraption to hold the wines. A table top, a shelf, even a construction block can house your bottles!
